THE THIRST PROJECT
ABOUT THE THIRST PROJECT
As the world’s largest youth water organization, the Thirst Project seeks to educate students on the global water crisis. Waterborne diseases kill more children every single year than AIDS, Malaria, and violence combined. Women and children spend on average six to eight hours each day walking 3.75 miles to fetch water. The time that it takes to collect water keeps women from better employment opportunities and children from getting the education they deserve. With close, safe drinking water, those in Swaziland can focus on taking a larger step towards contributing towards their family’s financial welfare, and towards the economic stability of their country. SWAZILAND
The Thirst Project has chosen to focus Swaziland because it has the highest population density of HIV/AIDS. For someone with AIDS, drinking dirty water can kill faster than AIDS itself. Swaziland’s population is small enough to make it possible to eliminate the water crisis there within a few years. The Thirst Project aims to raise $50 million to the entire nation of Swaziland by the year 2022.
PNW DISTRICT GOAL
This year, the Pacific Northwest District has set its fundraising goal to $75,000. This money will go towards building water projects in the Moyeni region in Swaziland and has the potential to build up to six water wells!
