How do I become an officer?The 2019 officer elections have concluded. Once elected, the new officers begin their term in March after DCON. Missed this election but still want to become an officer next year? Make sure you meet all of the requirements before the next elections roll around in December 2019/January 2020: Be a dues paid Key Club member Be in good academic standing Have an ASB card Cannot be president of another club Seniors cannot run

What do I do if I missed a key club meeting?The Meeting Slides Archive page will have all the presentation slides from previous meetings. There, you can find info about important events, reminders, and sign-ups. You can sign up for volunteer events directly through this website or you can DM us on Instagram. If you have any questions, feel free to contact an officer :)

Is it too late to join Key Club after the membership deadline?It is highly recommended you finish everything before the deadline, but if you are still interested, we will still accept new members throughout the year. (The reason we have a deadline is to ensure that everyone is properly entered into our system and everyone's hours can be recorded! It's also the best way to ensure that you are eligible when the time comes around for elections and DCON)

What is required of a Key Club member?As a Key Club member, you are expected to attend the biomonthly meetings, if possible, and meet the . If you meet these expectations, you will be eligible for awards at the end of the year.

Why do I have to pay membership dues?Membership dues contribute to a large portion of the club funds that make service projects and DCON attendance possible. If you are not a paid registered member of Key Club, then your name will not appear in the system and we cannot record your hours. If you have any difficulty meeting these financial obligations, please talk to Ms. Skowyra (324) or Ms. Nuttbrock (335).

What if I can only go to part of an event?A lot of times, events can be flexible. If you can only make it to a part of an event, make sure to check with the supervisor or an officer when you sign up for it. It is NOT okay to show up late or leave early without telling someone - this is bad volunteer etiquette. As long as you tell somebody, they will be happy to have your service for the time you can be there.

How do I find volunteer events?We will have many volunteer events available for sign-up at our bimonthly meetings. You can also join the club Facebook group or follow our Instagram for updates on events. Events are also available for sign up on our website page. If you still want to find more hours, reach out to us, the Mukilteo Kiwanis, or other members in the community. There are also a lot of websites that will match you up to volunteer opportunities nearby!

What if I signed up for an event but I can't go?You MUST tell an officer and/or the supervisor of the event THREE DAYS before the event. If you do not tell us three days beforehand, you must find a replacement for the event AND notify us of your replacement. *Please check your availability before signing up for events to minimize cancellations.

What happens if I don't have enough hours by the hours deadline?The deadlines are suggestions to keep you on track so you can meet the 40 hours requirement by the end of the school year. You can turn in the hours you have completed so far, and remember to make it up for the next deadline! (You will not be eligible for Member of the Month Awards if you haven't met the deadlines though. We also look at hours when choosing DCON candidates, so please try and meet your deadlines!)

Where do I find my old hour logs?Once your hour logs have been recorded, you can find them in the "Already Recorded" bin next to the one you originally turned them into at the library.

What if I lose my hour logs?If they were already recorded, then you're good. If not, there is not much we can do. We recommend taking pictures of your hour logs, so that way we can still re-sign them for you if you lose them. Please contact an officer if you have further concerns.

How do I check my hours?After each hours deadline, you can check your hours here (it may take about a week for it to be updated because secretaries have to verify everything). We also return your hour logs to the bin in the library after we check them off, so make sure you hold on to them in case we make any errors. ***You need to make an account to view your hours. We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but it is for privacy purposes!

When are hours due?We post the next hours deadline on the homepage of the website. The full list of monthly deadlines throughout the year is on the bottom of your orange membership forms and also on the Hours page.

What are KC hours?KC stands for Key Club, so any hours that you get from an event advertised by Key Club (at meetings and/or through FB/Insta/Remind/website) can count as KC hours. EXAMPLES: If you helped out at Boo Bash but didn't sign up directly through Key Club, it will still count as KC hours because Boo Bash was advertised by our club. If you volunteer at the local retirement center, your hours do NOT count as KC hours because Key Club did not directly advertise the opportunity.

How do I find more info after I've been chosen to go to DCON?Check www.pnwkeyclub.org/dcon2019 and follow the divisional facebook group for more info. We will also have a Kamiak Key Club DCON info meeting in mid-February and there is a division Pre-Con DCM where you can buy your spirit packs as well.

How do I go to DCON?All upcoming officers will go in order to attend officer training workshops. As for the remaining spots, members will be hand-selected based on merit (hours, attendance, active participation, etc). More information and DCON interest forms will be available at our early December meeting.

What is DCON?DCON stands for District Convention, and it is an annual gathering of Key Clubbers from across the Pacific Northwest. This year's DCON will be in Seattle, WA in early March. ​ DCON celebrates a successful year of service, and prepares Key Clubbers from over 300 clubs with leadership skills and service opportunities. Members attend workshops, receive officer training, and vote on the coming year’s District Executive Board. Throughout the weekend, attendees are encouraged to share their spirit in an environment of service-oriented individuals. Visit the 'DCON' page to see memories from previous conventions!

How much does DCON cost?Outgoing officers receive a reduced fee of $140 and regular members pay $170. Keep in mind that helping to make our fundraising efforts sucessful throughout the year will help reduce these costs. *We reserve the right to make changes to the cost of DCON at any time.

What is a DCM?A DCM is a monthly "Divisional Council Meeting" where key clubbers from Division 21 get together to bond and do service projects. They are super fun and a great opportunity to meet new people! We highly encourage members to attend.

How do I know when the next DCM is?Check the home page of this website for upcoming events or follow us on social media! Make sure to follow the Division 21 Facebook group as well, since that's where DCM announcements are made.

Is attendance at DCMs required?No, but DCM attendance is one of the factors we look at when considering DCON attendees. Plus, they are a great opportunity to meet new friends and have fun so we encourage all members to attend!

How do I get on the club Remind?There are two ways to join the Remind and receive texts: Download the Remind app. Select 'Join a Class' and enter in 'kamiakkc' Text '@kamiakkc' to 81010 We recommend the first method because you will be able to see the pictures/flyers we send out without having to click on any links. If Verizon is your network carrier, the only way you can receive notifications is with the first method.

Is there a Facebook page?Yes! Our club FB group is 'Kamiak High School Key Club' and the Division 21 FB Group is 'PNW Division 21 Key Club'. *Both are closed groups and you'll have to request to join.

How can I talk to my advisors?Advisor's emails are available here. You can also speak with them directly before/after school in Ms. Skowyra's room (324) or Ms. Nuttbrock's room (335).

What is a district project?Our club is part of the Pacific Northwest District in Key Club and each year, the governing body selects a charity to focus our fundraising efforts on. This year, our district project is the Thirst Project. Some other district projects in previous years include the Kiwanis Children's Cancer Fund and the Eliminate Project.

Are there scholarships for Key Club students?Yes! There are many scholarship opportunities for senior Key Club members at the international, district, and local level. Both the international and district level scholarships are due every year on February 1st and open up in the Fall. You can find them on the official key club website. Local Key Club scholarships are funded by our Mukilteo Kiwanis Club; more information will be released in the Spring.

How do I run for a higher office in key club?Elections for lieutenant governor (LTG) of Division 21 are held in January, so stay tuned in November/December for information. Elections for district-level offices take place at DCON but it's never too early to start prepping. Visit the PNW Key Club website for more information.
